St. Louis will host the first annual Players for Peace Goodwill Game at the Edward R. Jones Dome on August 7, 2010. The benefit match will feature a South American squad coached by Carlos Alberto Torres against a “Rest of the World” squad led by former US international and Fox Football Fone-In host Eric Wynalda. Proceeds will benefit sports and education programs in Haiti and St. Louis.
Players for Peace is an organization designed to create awareness for the United Nations General Assembly resolution on “Building a Better World through Sport and the Olympic Ideal.” On the eve of the game, the City of St. Louis will host the first United Nations Players for Goodwill Awards. Soccer icon Pele will be celebrated for his lifetime contributions while the Goodwill Ambassador Award will be passed on from AC Milan/Brazil superstar Ronaldinho to young legend Lionel Messi, the Argentinian who plays for Barcelona FC. Match tickets will be available exclusively through AC St. Louis/Athletica at 1-888-STL-GOAL through April 6th before general availability to the public.
