Tampa draws FC Dallas, Miami falls to NY Red Bulls

In the first test of Division 1 vs. Division 2, the newly formed Tampa Bay Rowdies were able to secure a draw against FC Dallas on Friday.

Here is a summary of the game from the Tampa Tribune, written by Tribune writer Nicholas Murray:

TAMPA – Facing Major League Soccer opposition for the first time, the FC Tampa Bay Rowdies took a big step forward from their first preseason outing as they secured a 2-2 tie against FC Dallas as part of the Tom Fitzgerald Soccer Festival at the University of Tampa’s Pepin Stadium on Friday night.

“I thought for us it was a big step up from last week,” midfielder Jeremy Christie said. “The intensity was a lot better, some of the organizational stuff was a lot better, and I think it was a big step up from last week.”

Chad Burt gave the Rowdies the lead in the 38th minute, firing a blistering free kick from 30 yards out into the right side of the net. Currently on trial with the club, Burt is in negotiations for a contract for the upcoming season, and he was happy with the way the side competed.

“The work ethic was all over,” Burt said. “Man for man, we did exactly what we wanted.”

Dallas hit back twice early in the second half, Ruben Lima striking in the 46th and 50th minutes, but Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe scored two minutes later to get the Rowdies on even terms.

The Rowdies continue their preseason Friday against MLS’s Philadelphia Union.

Also, Miami FC lost 3-1 at a rain filled Lockhart Stadium on Friday afternoon. Here is a write up on Our Sports Central about the match:

Miami, March 12, 2010- Miami FC lost the second preseason game to the New York Red Bulls 3-1 at Lockhart Stadium this Friday. The Blues will continue their preseason with a closed door scrimmage against Lynn University this Saturday, March 14 at 10 a.m.

“We appreciate them coming down here. We faced a team that has been together for six weeks, while we just started preseason last week,” said Head Coach Victor Pastora. “It was a great opportunity to evaluate talent and make final decisions.”

Miami fell behind early with a goal from New York forward Salou Ibrahim in the third minute. The Blues found their way back into the match and started creating more offensive opportunities. Towards the end of the first half, Edward Santeliz scored his first goal with a Miami FC uniform, scoring off a Bryan Perez rebound.

The New York Red Bulls quickly scored their second goal of the match when Conor Chinn headed a ball past the outstretched arms of the Miami goal keeper. Chinn was at it again when he broke through the defense on the right flank and fired a shot that lead to his second goal of the match.

Miami FC will open the 2010 season on Sunday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Lockhart Stadium against the visiting Rochester Rhinos.

  1. I think you meant Ruben Luna. Ruben Lima is a Portuguese international and a defender at that.
