AC St. Louis travel to Kansas City Saturday to play the first of a home and home series with the KC Wizards this Saturday, March 20. For any of you who are interested in a road trip, Jordan Kelsey of the Wizard’s front office was kind enough to give me some information about the match, the Supporter’s Showdown. The return game with the Wizards is scheduled for April 3rd at AB Soccer Park.
This Saturday’s game will be played at the Swope Park Wizard’s training facility at 2:00pm, followed hopefully by a game between ACSTL and Wizard’s supporters. Admission is $5, and the address of Swope Park Training Facility is 6310 Lewis Rd, Kansas City, MO 64130 for those of you who want to mapquest for directions. Tailgating is encouraged, but remember, this is a training facility, so there isn’t a lot of seating…..a wise traveller might haul a folding chair or two along. Also, there will probably be little or no concessions, so again, a word to the wise. The Wizards play UMKC tonight in another preseason match. The Wizards open their 2010 MLS season at their Community America home against DC United on March 27. As you are probably aware, the possibility of an MLS player’s strike looms like a dark cloud over all this, but hopefully both sides will come to a mutually satisfying agreement and a strike will be averted.
Thanks again to Jordan Kelsey of the Wizard’s front office, and I also want to give a shout out to Brian Roth there who was helpful in getting us tickets last year for the Wizards-Atlas game at Hermann Field. Jordan also said that the new soccer ballpark in KC may be ready by mid-season of 2011, so that’s great news for Wizards’ fans. I won’t be able to attend this Saturday’s match, but if anyone wants to contribute a game recap or photos, contact Dave at the email address under the ‘Welcome’ tab at the top of the Fanatic blog.
