AC St. Louis Drops Preseason Match to Kansas City 2-0

AC St. Louis lost the first of its two preseason matches today with the Kansas City Wizards, 2-0.  The game, played at the Wizards’ Swope Park training facility, was moved up to a 5:00pm kickoff today from its original Saturday 2:00pm kickoff due to predicted bad weather.

I don’t have much information about the game but for what was tweeted from the Hillcrest Road website, the official blog of the Wizards.  Naturally, their focus was on the Wizards players.

The first half was scoreless.  The Wizards offense picked up in the second half and KC newcomer Craig Rocastle scored on a low cross from KC defender Chance Myers.  Rocastle, a 28-year-old English midfielder signed a few days ago by the Wizards, later assisted Myers for the Wizard’s second goal.  Apparently conditions were windy with temperatures dropping rapidly and some rain coming down.  Although it’s no fun to lose, realize that the Wizards have already played preseason matches with Chivas USA, the LA Galaxy, Columbus Crew and San Jose Earthquakes, along with matches against several college squads, so they are further along in their preseason training than ACSTL.   Sorry that I don’t have more details about the game, but I figured some information was better than none.

AC St. Louis will get an opportunity to even the score when the two teams meet on April 3rd at AB Soccer Park.  Hopefully there will be no MLS players strike to affect the game.

  1. thanks for the info, Gerry. I wonder if any AC St.Louis fans that attended the match could provide us with any more info?

  2. They played well, keeper made some sure goal stops, at least 3.

KCW is just a powerhouse club with a Euro Savvy center.
