AC St. Louis are now 2-1-1 in the preseason (sodagraphics.blogspot.com)

From the AC St. Louis front office:

ST. LOUIS, MO (March 24, 2010) – AC St. Louis held their fourth exhibition match of the spring Wednesday night when they faced the SIUE Cougars at Ralph Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Illinois. The clubs played to a 0-0 draw with both teams generating just a handful of scoring chances.

The first shot in anger came from AC St. Louis midfielder Chris Salvaggione in the 26th minute. His shot from the left edge of the 18-yard box sailed just a few feet past the far right post. The shot marked the first time either team was able to have a clean look at the goal. Minutes later AC St. Louis earned the first free kick of the game that would allow for a direct shot on goal. New arrival Manuel Kante stepped forward to take it, but the SIUE wall deflected his strike.

SIUE nearly claimed the lead in the 34th minute when Mike Jones sent his back-post header off a corner kick just inches wide of the post. Just before halftime Zach Bauer moved from right back to defensive midfielder, triggering some good ball movement from AC St. Louis who dominated possession for the majority of the first half.

Benny Jeffries took the first good chance of the second half as SIUE came forward, sending Jeffries in with a good through ball. Jeffries chipped attempt on goalkeeper Alec Dufty sailed harmlessly wide, keeping the game scoreless towards the hour mark.

Manuel Kante managed a good look at the goal in the 68th minute when Brad Stisser delivered a pass on the edge of the 18-yard box. Kante’s shot was slightly deflected by the SIUE defender, allowing goalkeeper Nick Collico to make an easy save.

Both teams traded chances in the final minutes, but neither forced either of the goalkeepers into a save.
