There are two events featuring AC St. Louis players and front office people Saturday that sound like a lot of fun. Between 10:00 am and noon, AC St. Louis players Troy Cole, John Lesko and Ryan Moore, along with Athletica’s Sarah Teagarden will be at the Amsterdam Tavern in south St. Louis. Their address is 3175 Morganford, a few blocks from Tower Grove Park. The Amsterdam Tavern is a soccer-friendly bar, and is also a non-smoking environment for those who dislike smoky bars. Later in the evening, starting at 9:00 pm, there will be the Golden Ball Kick-off Party at the Europe Club again featuring AC St. Louis and Athletica players and staff. More details about the party are listed under the ‘Fan Zone’ tab at the top of the Fanatic page.
Also, AC St. Louis has announced that their game here against the Kansas City Wizards is now going to be a part of a doubleheader, with the announcement of a 5:00 pm game between St. Louis University and SIU-Edwardsville. The rivalry between the two schools for the Bronze Boot was a big draw back in the day, as the teams faced each other at Busch Stadium. Hats off to everyone for making the April 3rd doubleheader something very special. With free admission for season ticket holders and $10 general admission, this is a great value for area soccer fans. I can’t wait. Also, for those of you who haven’t checked lately, AC St. Louis has relaunched a new webpage which is far superior to the old one. It includes pictures of the players, which I though was really cool. Congratulations, and here’s the addy: http://www.ac-stlouis.com/ . I also want to thank the front office for sending a commentary of ACSTL’s game against SIU-E, which we were able to post minutes later.
I also wanted to remind everyone that St. Louis Athletica opens its season at AB Soccer Park on Sunday, April 11 at 3:00 pm, facing Marta and her FC Gold Pride teammates. There will be a lot of world-class players on the field that day. For more information on the team, tickets and schedule, visit their website: http://www.womensprosoccer.com/stlouis . Also, I want to give a shout out to Tony Glavin’s St. Louis Lions, who open up on Saturday, May 15th against the Real Colorado Foxes. They also have a new website, http://joomla.stllions.com/ . Two members of the AC St. Louis squad, Brad Stisser and Chris Salvaggione, are alumni of Real Colorado. Good luck to the Lions in their 2010 PDL season. The PDL plays a very important role in the development of players in the United States.
Finally, I want to end with an email I received from Charlie Mathews of Tigin’s Irish Pub, entitled “36,421.” Here goes…..
” The number of those in attendance last night during the MLS First Kick match between the Seattle Sounders and Philadelphia Union. A match between two American teams played on American soil with mostly American players. This is the opportunity that lays before us. I believe St. Louis has the potential to support a team in this capacity. I just want to ask that everyone continue to do everything they can to support and promote both AC St. Louis and St. Louis Athletica throughout their upcoming seasons and for many seasons to come.”
It’s really all up to us, the fans. More about that at a later time. Thanks for reading.
