Erik Ustruck signs with Tampa Bay Rowdies

TAMPA, Fla. (April 6, 2010) – FC Tampa Bay Rowdies (FC Tampa Bay) announce the signing of Erik Ustruck, who previously played for the Houston Dynamo for three seasons, including the 2007 season when Houston won the MLS Cup.

The Houston Dynamo drafted Ustruck in the third round of the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft. He made his professional debut in 2008 during the third round of the U.S. Open Cup against Charleston Battery. Houston then loaned Ustruck out to Austin Aztex in 2009 where he played in five games.

“Erik is a former teammate of mine from Houston who is a versatile player with immense pace,” said Head Coach Paul Dalglish. “Erik will not only strengthen our team in several positions on the field but also off the field with his excellent character and personality.”

Ustruck began his soccer career at Santa Clara University in 2003 and played for four seasons as a midfielder and forward. During his tenure with the Broncos, Ustruck started in 69 of the 82 games played and received several honors, including 2003 and 2006 All-WCC Second Team, National Player of the Week in October of 2005 and 2006 UCI Classic All-Tournament Team. He also played for the U.S. U-20 National Team in 2004 making several appearances for the team, including a 1-0 win over the Haitian U-20 National Team.

The first regular season game for FC Tampa Bay will be on April 16 against Crystal Palace Baltimore at the UMBC Stadium in Baltimore and the first home game is May 8 at 7:30 p.m. against the Austin Aztex at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
