EDMONTON, AB – FC Edmonton today introduced the coaching staff, headed by Dwight Lodeweges, Associate Coach Hans Schrijver and Assistant Coach Dave Randall.
Dutch-Canadian Dwight Lodeweges was a coach for the Dutch premier league’s FC Groningen, FC Zwolle, PSV Eindhoven and NEC Nijmegen. Lodeweges spent 9 years playing in North America including four years with the Edmonton Drillers.“I’m very happy to be back,” said Lodeweges. “I was born here. I played here. And I want to coach here and help young Alberta players develop.”
Hans Schrijver, a former member of the Dutch Olympic team and player with SC Cambur and GA Eagles, most recently comes to Edmonton as coach of the U20 Dutch Men’s National team and long-time member of the staff of KNVB – Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbalbond (“Royal Dutch Football Association”).Dave Randall is head coach of four-time Canadian champion Calgary Caledonian FC of the AMSL since 1996. Dave was also head coach of Calgary United FC of the CMISL, the CSL’s Calgary Kickers and the five time-ACAC provincial champion – National champion Mount Royal Cougars.
New Logo – New Colours
Blue and black, with white & silver highlights are FC Edmonton’s new team colours. “We chose a bold font for a bold and strong team”, beamed President Tom Fath.
Training Camp Started this Morning
FC Edmonton also announced that training camp started today at Foote Field. Two-a-day training sessions begin tomorrow. (see attached schedule).
Although the majority of the players were invited to camp by invitation only, FC Edmonton will be holding Open Tryouts on April 23rd and April 29th. Players can register online at http://www.FCEdmonton.com or at Foote Field one hour prior to each tryout. Each participant will be charged $100 and should they make the team, the fee will be reimbursed to them.
FC Edmonton is working on a number of exhibition games for this year to be played at Foote Field, and the possibility of a major game at Commonwealth Stadium.
