US Men’s National Team Pick 30 Man Training Roster for World Cup

With the 2010 World Cup a month away in South Africa, US men’s national team coach Bob Bradley picked his 30 man training roster.  Only 23 of the 30 will be included in the squad that travels to South Africa.  The final 23 players who make the squad will be determined by June 1.  Between then and now. the USMNT plays friendlies against the Czech Republic on May 26 (8:00 pm ET) in East Hartford, CT. and Turkey on May 29 (2:00 pm ET) in Philadelphia, before a final tune-up in South Africa against the Socceroos of Australia on June 5 (8:30 am ET), before opening their World Cup group contest against England on June 12 (2:30 pm ET).  All the friendly games will be televised on the ESPN/ESPN2 network.  The England matchup will be on ABC.

Forward Charlie Davies was not included on the squad.  Davies, who played so well last summer in the Confederations Cup and plays his club football for Sochaux in Ligue 1, was seriously injured in a car crash last fall and, although he has miraculously resumed training, has not appeared in a game since the accident, although he wants to play in Sochaux’ season finale this weekend.  Other players who some fans felt deserved consideration but were not selected for the roster include Freddy Adu, Conor Casey, Brian McBride, Edgar Castillo and Frankie Hejduk.

Midfielders:  Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy, MLS), Clint Dempsey (Fulham, EPL), Michael Bradley(Borussia Monchengladbach, Bundesliga), Maurice Edu (Rangers, SPL), Jose Francisco ‘Gringo’ Torres (Pachuca, FMF), Ricardo Clark (Eintracht Frankfurt, Bundesliga), Stuart Holden (Bolton, EPL), Benny Feilhaber (AGF Aarhus, Denmark), DeMarcus Beasley (Rangers, SPL), Alejandro Bedoya (Orebro, Sweden),  Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew, MLS), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA, MLS)

Forwards:  Jozy Altidore (Hull City, EPL), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo, MLS), Herculez Gomez (Puebla, FMF), Eddie Johnson (Aris Salonika, Greece), Edson Buddle (LA Galaxy, MLS), Robbie Findley (Real Salt Lake, MLS)
