St. Louis Lions News, Roster and 2010 Schedule

The following is a press release from the Lions’ General Manager James Shipley.  The team roster includes a couple familiar names, as Jarius “Juice” Holmes returns to the Lions from the Austin Aztex and Tad Kreamalmeyer, AC St. Louis’ Luke Kreamalmeyer’s younger brother,  joins the Lions from the University of Evansville.  Good Luck to the Lions in 2010 PDL  and US Open Cup competition.

St Louis, MO…The St. Louis Lions begin their fifth season Saturday, May 15th 5:00 PM with a US Open Cup Qualifying game against the Real Colorado Foxes at the Tony Glavin Soccer Complex in St Charles.

Competing again in the Heartland Division of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League (PDL) the Lions face the finest players in the Midwest.   Yet expectations are high as President and Head Coach Tony Glavin features a team composed of local and international player.

“This year, we’re really focusing on our young players, giving them a chance to prove themselves against the highest competition,” said Glavin.  “Our veterans will also share a burden but it’s the youngsters who are going to provide the excitement and energy that our teams have been known for.  Overall we have a good mix of players.  We still have a few players that have yet to be released from their college teams and we will bring them in as soon as possible.”

“We don’t want to get too excited about our prospects just yet,” said Glavin.  “We know we’re going to be fast and very entertaining for the fans.  How quickly our youngsters come along will tell the tale in the end. What must be remembered is that this is a level above the college game and it is very demanding. Everyone on the field has his eyes on the pros, the competition is stiff and there’s no easy way to make it but talent and hard work.”

Also new for 2010 season is the Monster Pit, a high energy seating section for fans to cheer, chant and revel sponsored by Monster Energy Drink.  “The Monster Pit is really designed for our regular fans who attend wearing the green and wanting to be as loud as they possibly can,” said Jim Shipley, Lions General Manager.

“We have had some incredibly loyal and vocal fans and now they have a place to get together along with the newer fans who want to join the fun. Soccer in St Louis has really taken some major steps forward in the past five years and we look forward to continuing to add to that excitement.”

The Lions have already had an outstanding year in sponsorship development.  “We’ve added Umbro as our equipment sponsor,” said Glavin, “and we now have Fast Lane Convenience Stores and Stations as our shirt sponsor.  We’ve brought on board Monster Energy Drinks, Anheuser Busch, and many others, including a major new back shirt sponsor we’ll be announcing in a few days.”
