AC beats Minnesota, takes on Galaxy next!

Dufty with one of many big saves so far (Jeremy Olson)

While the season hasn’t exactly been the brightest spot for AC St. Louis this year, the team continues to impress with their US Open Cup play, as they go on the road and beat NSC Minnesota Stars by a score of 1-0.

AC St. Louis didn’t have much of the offensive pressure during this game, but scored when it counted.

It looked as it was going to be a rough game, with Troy Cole getting a yellow card just a few minutes into the game. After Cole’s card, Mike Ambersley was also carded in the 30th minute.

But Ambersley was able to repay the AC St. Louis fans, scoring a goal from a Luke Kreamalmeyer full volley kick in the 35th minute.

This would prove to be all that AC needed to win the game.

In addition to Ambersley’s goal, goalkeeper Alec Dufty had an amazing game, stopping shot after shot from the charging Stars, who controlled most of the offensive categories throughout the match. Still, Minnesota were not able to finish any chances late in the game, which is what ultimately cost the Star a chance at extra time.

This is easily the biggest match, so far, for AC St. Louis. Their next game in the Cup, which will be their biggest yet again, will be in sunny Los Angeles, as they take on the Galaxy. Maybe this is the exposure that the team needs to survive? We hope so.

There will be more on this game later, but AC deserves a big congrats! Great game for the fans!

  1. Three clean sheets in a row for Alec Dufty. Congratulations AC !!!

  2. Wow! This is great news! Good luck to the boys in LA. This team is showing a lot of spirit, similar to what the US is showing in the World Cup. I thought we competed very well against KC. It has me expecting a result against LA. If they tie, would the return leg be here in St. Louis?

    • Don’t believe their would be a tie.. I think after 2 extra time periods they would go to penalty kicks.. or at least that’s how it was in the first round.

  3. It would be cool if LA had to come here and play at Soccer Park. With that said, the boys will just have to beat LA. They can do it. Go AC St. Louis!
