Fanatic Exclusive: Players for Peace Game Postponed

The AC St. Louis Fanatic has learned today that the Players for Peace Goodwill Game, originally scheduled for August 7, 2010 at the Edward Jones Dome, has been postponed, most likely until the Spring or Summer of 2011.  Sources told the Fanatic that a conference call between the parties involved in the benefit game will occur next week, possibly Monday, and details will hopefully be ironed out for the game to be rescheduled next year.

The Players for Peace ia an organization designed to create awareness for the United Nations General Assembly resolution on “Building a Better World through Sport and the Olympic Ideal.”  The game was to feature an All-Star team of South American players, coached by Carlos Alberto Torres against a “Rest of the World” squad coached by Fox Fone-In cohost and former US international player Eric Wynalda.  The game was to benefit victims of the Haitain earthquake and St. Louis charities.

Soccer icon Pele was to be celebrated for his lifetime contributions while the Goodwill Ambassador Award was to be passed on from AC Milan/Brazil superstar Ronaldinho to young legend Lionel Messi, the Argentinian who plays for FC Barcelona, at a ceremony the day before the contest.   Hopefully everything can be worked out as we look forward to being able to see the stars of the international soccer world light up St. Louis.  The game would have been the first athletic contest utilizing the new turf installed at the Dome.

We will have more details on the upcoming game when they become available.
