Miami FC Add Two More Players for Playoff Run

Miami FC have added two players, Gerson Mayen and Chukwudi Chijindu, on loan from MLS club Chivas USA for the remainder of the USSF D2 season.  Miami FC just added central defender Aaron Hohlbein from the Kansas City Wizards on loan.   The three acquisitions look to boost Miami FC’s playoff run with nine games remaining following Saturday’s night clash with the Puerto Rico Islanders in Bayamon, PR.

Gerson Mayen is a twenty-one year old midfielder from the Los Angeles area.  He is a product of the Chivas USA youth academy and signed with Chivas USA in 2008.  He made his senior club debut in the second game of the 2009 season, playing in 12 matches that season and four in 2010, including two starts.  Mayen, 5’7,” has made five appearances for the US U-20 national team, although because of his Salvadoran heritage he may be courted by the senior men’s national team of El Salvador.  Mayen was a part of three national championship teams with the Alta Loma Arsenal youth club.

Chukwudi Chijindu is a 5’9″ forward who signed with Chivas USA out of the University of Connecticut.  At UConn, Chijindu scored 26 goals in 86 games.  The twenty-four year old, a native of Fontana, California,  has made 18 appearances for the Goats since 2009, scoring twice.

It will be very interesting to see if the three new loanees can lift Daryl Shore’s Miami FC into playoff contention.  The Blues won their last contest, 1-0, against Crystal Palace Baltimore on Wednesday, and a win tonight would lift them past the Baltimore squad in the NASL conference and level them at 21 points with AC St. Louis, who played a scoreless draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps Friday evening.

In other player moves, midfielder Collen Warner and defender Chris Schuler returned to Real Salt Lake after a brief loan spell with AC St. Louis.
