When the two teams met on August 8 in Victoria, the home team Highlanders came from behind to squeak out a draw against an FC Edmonton team travelling for the first time as a squad.
On Wednesday night, FC Edmonton decided to dominate on their home pitch from start to finish.
Three minutes in, FC Edmonton got a dream start when a terrific throw in from defender Andre Duberry found an in form Matt Lam who took one touch around the keeper and knocked it off the post and in.
1-0 FC Edmonton in the 3rd minute.
FC Edmonton had all the chances in the first 15 minutes and were unlucky not to extend their one goal lead.
That is until the 17th minute, when midfielder Kyle Yamada finished a beautiful three-man passing play and put FC Edmonton up 2-0. A well deserved two-goal lead.

Matt Lam had another chance on goal in the 23rd minute. The young midfielder masterfully beat two or three defenders before sliding a harmless shot on goal, which was easily saved by Highlanders goalkeeper, Brandon Watson.
Rein Baart was called on to make his first save in the 27th minute. The big Dutch keeper rose well and easily collected a high cross into the box.
In the 30th minute FC Edmonton had a scare when captain Chris Kooy gave the ball away in the box, but the strong centre back recovered well and the Victoria striker was unable to get a shot off in the end.
Another brilliant passing play by midfielder Sander van Gessel put FC Edmonton up 3-0 when Chris Lemire coolly finished behind Watson.

Lam and van Gessel continued to dominate the Highlanders defence and came close to scoring again in the 42nd minute. But the Highlanders couldn’t recover and the resulting corner kick found the net off the head of Yamada for his second goal of the game.

Half time couldn’t come sooner for the boys from the Island while the home team held their heads very high going in to the dressing room with a commanding lead.
Victoria came out strong in the second half though. They got on the board early when Jonah Feil was able to beat Baart and got his team on the board.
4-1 FC Edmonton in the 47th minute.
Matt Lam put an end to any hint of another Victoria comeback by putting FC Edmonton up 5-1 with his second goal of the game.
5-1 FC Edmonton in the 62nd minute.
Just two minutes later, FC Edmonton won a penalty and really put the game away with Lemire finishing straight down the middle from 12 yards out for his second goal of the game.

With a five-goal lead in the 65th minute, the game was in the bag. FC Edmonton made wholesale changes to the lineup to finish it off and substitute Ezra Schrijver capped off the victory, scoring minutes after coming on to the pitch.
7-1 FC Edmonton in the 80th minute.
Final score: FC Edmonton 7 Victoria Highlanders 1 in front of 2,358 fans.
Next game for FC Edmonton goes Sunday, August 15 against the Spokane Spiders at Foote Field. Kick off is 2:05 p.m.
