Bundesliga Weekend Action on U.S. TV

The Bundesliga resumes action this weekend after the international break.  Germany won both its Euro 2012 qualifiersm defeating Belgium 1-0 and downed Azerbaijan Tuesday 6-1, led by Bayern’ Munich’s Miroslav Klose’s two goals and single tallies by Lukas Podolski (FC Koln), Heiko Westermann (Hamburg) and young Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber.  Azerbaijan contributed an own goal to the rout.

Each team in the Bundesliga has played twice this season before the international break interrupted play.  1899 Hoffenheim and FC Kaiserslautern, promoted to Bundesliga 1 this season, lead the league so far with two victories and goal differentials of +4 each, although Hoffenheim needed a late goal by Isaac Vorsah to defeat St. Pauli, also newly promoted for the 2010-2011 season.  The other teams with two wins include Mainz 05, Hamburg and Hannover 96, who just brought American international midfielder DeMarcus Beasley onto the team.  Surprisingly, Schalke 04 and VfL Wolfsburg have lost twice, while VfB Stuttgart, FC Koln and Eintracht Frankfurt will be looking for their first points this weekend.

GolTV will be broadcasting three Match Day 3 Bundesliga games this weekend.  On Friday afternoon, a tasty match between Hoffenheim and Schalke 04 will kick off at 2:30 pm ET.  Saturday morning, Gol TV will feature another live match between Borussia Dortmund and Vfl Wolfsburg at 9:30 am ET, and on Sunday there will be a delay showing of the FC Koln-St. Pauli contest at 3:00 pm ET.

ESPN 3, the free online streaming service, will also feature Bundesliga live action this weekend.  On Saturday, at 12:30 pm ET, FC Hollywood (ahem, Bayern Munich) will match up with Werder Bremen,  Sunday morning at 9:30 am ET, Mainz 05 and FC Kaiserslautern do battle in a matchup of the undefeated.  We’ve come a far way in the U.S. when the only German soccer we could watch was the “Soccer Made in Germany” show on PBS.

  1. Glad they are showing more Bundesliga on TV. Its one of the most entertaining leagues in Europe currently. With less diving/whining than Spain/Italian teams.

  2. Some good American players are playing in the Bundesliga so I hope we get to see more and more of these matches. Remember “Soccer Made in Germany”? I watched that show all the time when I was a kid growing up. I owe a part of my passion for the Game The Beautiful to the great Toby Charles. Cheers.
