CONCACAF Champions League Resumes Tuesday

The CONCACAF Champions League group stage games resume Tuesday.  That evening, the Columbus Crew host Trinidad and Tobago side Jor Public, while Monterrey plays host to Marathon.  Municipal hosts Santos Laguna and the Seattle Sounders will be in Costa Rica playing Saprissa.  On Wednesday evening,  Toluca hosts USSF D2 club the Puerto Rico Islanders, while Aribe Unido welcome Cruz Azul to Panama and two MLS clubs, Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC, clash at Rio Tinto Stadium.  Thursday’s lone CCL match features Olimpia hosting FAS of El Salvador.

After two group stage games so far in this year’s CCL, only two clubs have perfect records — Santos Laguna who lead Group B, and Monterrey, who lead Group C.  In Group A, all four teams — Toronto FC, Cruz Azul, Real Salt Lake and Aribe Unido are tied with three points, while Toluca and the Puerto Rico Islanders currently share the Group D lead with four points each.  The MLS Seattle Sounders are the only one of the sixteen teams in the group stage that have not gained at least one point after two games.

Javier Orozco of Cruz Azul is this year’s tournament goal-scoring leader thus far with seven goals, which includes his goals in the preliminary round.  Four players are tied with four goals each in the tournament, including Nicholas Addlery of Puerto Rico, Alvaro Saborio of Real Salt Lake, Jose Maria Cardenas of Santos Laguna and Marathon’s Nicolas Cardozo.

Tuesday’s matches between Columbus-Joe Public and Saprissa-Seattle Sounders will be televised at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm CDT, respectively, on FSC.  Wednesday’s Real Salt Lake-Toronto FC matchup will be on FSC at 9:00 pm CDT.
