GolTV will feature three Bundesliga matches this coming weekend, September 17 -19. On Friday afternoon, the featured match will be Eintracht Frankfurt against SC Freiburg. Each team has an American player on their roster. Midfielder Ricardo Clark plays for Eintracht Frankfurt, while Daniel Williams plays defense for Freiburg. Clark, however, has only made a brief cameo appearance this season after starting several games to close last season for Eintracht Frankfurt. The game will be televised live at 2:30 pm ET.
On Saturday morning, GolTV will bring the live matchup of defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich hosting Cologne at 9:30 am ET. Bayern Munich will be fresh off their Champions League win over AS Roma Wednesday, a 2-0 victory in which AS Roma held steady against the Bayern Munich onslaught until Thomas Muller finally broke the scoreless contest with a beautiful shot in the 78th minute. Miroslav Klose doubled the score five minutes later. Cologne has won once and lost twice in its first three Bundesliga outings.
On Sunday morning at 10:30 an ET, GolTV will broadcast the derby match between St. Pauli and Hamburg live. The Buccaneers of St. Pauli have been absent from the first tier of the Bundesliga since the 2001-2002 season, but with a world-wide fan base they are certainly one of the most popular German clubs. Hamburg carry the distinction of winning the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League during the 1982-1983 season. Hamburg are undefeated in the new season, winning twice and drawing once, but may be without regular goalkeeper Frank Rost. St. Paulli has won once in its return to Bundesliga 1, and its two losses were by 1-0 scores to Hoffenheim and Cologne.
ESPN 3, the online streaming service, will feature two Bundesliga games this weekend. On Saturday morning at 9:30 am ET, the Werder Bremen- Mainz 05 match will be featured. On Tuesday, Werder Bremen came back from a 2-0 deficit to draw against Spurs 2-2 in Champions League play, courtesy of goals by Hugo Almeida right before half and Marco Marin two minutes after intermission. Meanwhile, Mainz 05 are one of only two Bundesliga teams off to a perfect start(Hoffenheim is the other) in the 2010-2011 season.
On Sunday morning at 11:30 am ET, ESPN 3 will show the Schalke 04-Borussia Dortmund match. Schalke 04, off to a winless start in the new season, also dropped their Champions League match to Lyon Tuesday, 1-0, as the French team took advantage of a misplayed back pass to earn the lone goal from a hustling Michel Bastos. Hopefully for fans of the Royal Blues, Schalke 04 will gain their first points of the season at their Veltins-Arena home in Gelsenkirchen. This Ruhr district derby match will be tightly fought, but Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp and his team are confident coming off their 2-0 MatchDay 3 win over VfL Wolfsburg. Borussia Dortmund will be in the Ukraine Thursday for a Europa League match with Karpaty Lviv before meeting Schalke 04 Sunday.
