NASL News: NSC Minnesota Renews 11 Player Options

It was announced on the Inside Minnesota Soccer blog today that the NSC Minnesota Stars had renewed the option of eleven players from last year’s playoff squad.  The players who will return include veteran goalkeeper Joe Warren, defenders Kyle Altman, Andres Arrango and Chris Clements, midfielders Kentaro Tekada, Geison Moura, Lucas Rodriguez, Ely Allen and Daniel Wasson and forwards Simon Bracalello and Devin Del Do.  The team’s management is also interested in talking to out of contract players Matt Van Oekel, Kevin Friedland, Scott Lorenz and Johnny Menyongar.  For more on the situation in Minnesota, see Inside Minnesota Soccer http://www.insidemnsoccer.com/

This is great news for NSC Minnesota and NASL fans.  Last year’s Stars team, coached by Manny Lagos, was the only expansion club to make the USSF D2 playoffs.  They did it by playing well down the stretch, keyed by the return of young Devin Del Do, who missed most of the season with injury.  The combination of Del Do and Simon Bracalello ignited the Stars’ attack and, along with solid defense and goalkeeping from Joe Warren, propelled the club into the playoffs.  It is good to see the core of NSC Minnesota’s roster returning.  Currently Moura and Rodriguez are playing indoors for the MISL Missouri Comets.

In other NASL news, FC Tampa Bay announced that they were not picking up the options on two players from their 2010 roster, midfielder Stanley Nyazamba and defender Graham Tatters.  FC Tampa Bay, a 2010 expansion team, started the season well, but fell off after the end of May, leading eventually to the dismissal of Coach Paul Dalglish with two games remaining in the season.  FC Tampa Bay won their final league match under interim coach Perry Van Der Beck.  FC Tampa Bay previously announced that they were renewing options with midfielders Mozzi Gyorio, Long Tan and Jonny Steele, along with forward Aaron King, who led the club in 2010 with 12 goals.

Also, the NASL Fanatic was invited to be on the Feuerstein’s Fire podcast, episode # 37, on Tuesday evening.  Feuerstein’s Fire is part of the MLS Talk/EPL Talk family of podcasts.  You can listen here      http://www.blogtalkradio.com/feuersteinsfire/2010/12/15/feuesteins-fire-37      The  Fanatic comes on about halfway through the podcast.  Thanks to Daniel Feuerstein for the opportunity to talk about the NASL and St. Louis soccer.
